How can you gain more capacity while saving on tower leasing fees?

The costs involved in the leasing of cell tower space for antennas can be high and depend on various factors including site location, the size and weight of your antennas, and how much wind torque your antennas add to the tower structure.

A fiber-based solution is one option for reducing these expenses, but it also comes with other disadvantages that include extensive infrastructure investment and long lead times — which result in the inability to offer remote connectivity quickly and cost effectively.

For these reasons and more, we’ve put together a list of alternative technologies that can help you reduce the size of your antennas AND still get more capacity quickly:

  • 4X4 line-of-sight multiple input, multiple output (LOS MIMO) technology — creates an artificial multipath and transmits four different signals over the same frequency channel. This allows you to split your traffic between these multiple carriers and use lower modulation to achieve additional system gain. With the additional system gain of LOS MIMO, you can install smaller and lighter antennas, which in turn leads to substantial CAPEX and OPEX savings.
  • Multicore radios — by deploying multicore radios that offer two carriers in a single box, you can split your traffic across the two carriers, over different channels or over a single channel by using XPIC. You then can use lower modulation, add system gain and reduce your antenna size.
  • Header De-Duplication — increase your bandwidth through Header De-Duplication, and minimize repetitious packet header information to reduce the amount of information that needs to be sent. This means that you can transmit more data over a given spectrum so you can use lower modulation to accommodate your capacity requirements, add system gain and reduce antenna size.

These multi-capacity boosting techniques can be applied to reduce your tower loads and related costs with Ceragon's multicore IP-20 platform.

This technology, developed in-house by Ceragon via vertically integrated and dedicated chipsets, enables operators to accommodate ever-increasing bandwidth requirements, enhance operational efficiencies, and save CAPEX by cutting high tower real estate costs.
