Backhaul Network Sharing in the Packet Era

by RanAvital | Oct 2, 2013 8:30:15 AM

In this post Ran Avital analyzes backhaul network sharing and gives his post-conference thoughts about the 3rd Annual Packet Microwave & Mobile Backhaul event, which took place last week, September 23-25, in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the 3rd Annual Packet Microwave & Mobile Backhaul event in Dusseldorf. Aside from the fact that this event is a great place to meet the competition, look at QAM dots on the scope in the neighboring stand, and touch the new slick design of the latest compact radios

Fronthaul Service Case Studies

by RanAvital | Sep 12, 2013 7:34:54 AM

Last week here on the Backhaul Forum, I looked at how fronthaul raises the bar for extreme capacity and latency requirements as compared to backhaul. In particular, I looked at whether it is possible to make the costs of fronthaul efficient enough to facilitate C-RAN for mobile operators who have less than 90% fiber coverage to the cell site.

Today, I’m continuing the fronthaul discussion. Let’s look at the different service models and then review cases that describe the various options for managed CPRI or, as we call it here, fronthaul services.

Cloud-RAN – Fronthaul Perspective

by RanAvital | Sep 4, 2013 5:39:40 AM

In my last blog post, I discussed how mobile operators are going to use a mix of technologies in order to increase capacity coverage while striving to reduce their total costs.

Ceragon’s Heterogeneous Network continuum (3H) underscores the reality that there will not be a single network approach. On one side of the 3H spectrum, denoted as ‘Offload’, a myriad of small cells from a host of vendors. Either Wi-Fi or Femto based, working independently and off-net, over any packet based broadband network,

What is Holistic HetNet Hauling (3H)?

by RanAvital | Jul 28, 2013 4:11:18 AM

Mobile operators are struggling to provide the capacity to meet the explosion of demand for mobile broadband services. Today’s mobile networks comprise wide-area coverage of 2G, 3G and 4G/LTE technologies. Seeking better capacity coverage and operational efficiencies, operators look for new, promising network concepts.
